Female Urology

As a matter of fact urological problem can affect both male and female, however the conditions are more common in women because the urinary tract is much closer to the genital area in women than men. That is why urinary tract problem and kidney problem are relatively more prevailing in women. Apart from this, other medical problems can arise in which pregnancy, child birth and sexual intercourse can play significant role in urological conditions affecting women.

Female urology comprehensively focuses on the pelvic health of female patients. Though, older women are more likely to be affected by these female urological problems, however women of all ages are having an impact of these disease eventually. It is also a paradox that most of the women suffer in silence rather that getting treatment and eradicate the problem.

Urinary condition and the treatment

These are the following urinary conditions that can occur in females:

Urinary tract infection

Urinary tract infection (UTI) occurs due to the bacterial infection that leads to frequent urination with pain, cramps, nausea or blood in urine. Women are 10 times more hazardous to develop UTI situation than men.

Urinary incontinence

It is an accidental release of the urine. We can divide female chronic incontinence into the three categories:

  • Stress incontinence: It occurs when we sneeze, cough, jog, laugh and do anything which put pressure on the bladder.
  • Urge incontinence: It usually happens when someone feels strong need to urinate but cannot reach to the toilet on time.
  • Overflow incontinence: This condition refers to the condition of an inability to completely void the bladder.

Urinary fistula

It refers to the situation when any abnormal connection is established between ureters, bladder, urethra and vagina. Due to this abnormal connection there can be problem of  urine leaking from the vagina.

Over active bladder

It is the condition of frequent and sudden urge to urinate.

Voiding dysfunction

This problem is pertinent to abnormality of the filling or voiding of the bladder. The chronic voiding dysfunction in women comprises painful urination, urinary retention, urinary frequency and urinary urgency.

Pelvic organ prolapse

This problem happens when women muscles, skin, ligament and other structures adjacent to vagina become weak. It makes pelvic organs such as the bladder to fall out of the normal position. Different types of prolapse include vaginal prolapse, bladder prolapse etc.
